Visit the Fire Chai Club
The Fire Chai Club week meetly at an allotment in Accrington. We dig the earth, plant seeds, nurture growth and take turns to cook for each other. We make chai on a fire in whatever weather we are faced with, throwing in some mint as the pot boils for freshness and a taste of the land we tend.
Artist Rifke joined the club in November 2023 tasked with working with everyone there to conceptualise and create a website. Some of the women in attendance that day had never used a computer before, let alone built a website. With just a short day together, and then a little follow up via WhatsApp, this website was created. This site – much like the weekly meeting from which it draws its name – is activated by women coming together.
Rifke is a creative technologist and educator based in London, UK. She collaborates with clients across the arts, charity, fashion and music, as well as lecturing and facilitating workshops with the aim of making the tech industry feel more inviting and inclusive and less serious.
